The man
Architect of grace and detail, Carlo Scarpa had a particular relationship with Venise, almost close, it will make the city and his work inseparable. Passed by the Venise Beaux-Arts school, his function as advisor in Murano Glassware improved his taste of experimentation and his detail skills.
A masterpiece
The Olivetti boutique, avant-gardism and with a great accuracy, is emblematic of his work. Humility of this operation face to heritage will make this place a symbol of contemporary architecture. His knowledge of glass will give to show case a ingenious balance between reflects and transparency without distort one of the most visited place in the world.The project had to remove some partitions, openings and ceilings of the store, the preserved volume can receive light in a optimized way. The famous stairs, the Istrie stone, which is used also as a display for the writing machine is placed in the middle of the space. A museum is now open to public since 2011 and it was a place for architecture biennale in 2012.
